One killed, two others seriously injured in Palm Harbor crash

A 43-year-old woman died from her injuries. The cause of the crash is still being investigated by the Florida Highway Patrol.

PALM HARBOR — One woman was killed and two others were seriously injured in a crash that took place Friday outside a shopping plaza on Tampa Road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Stephanie Ann Tunender, 43, was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

The incident took place just before 11:30 a.m. near the entrance to the Shoppes at Cloverplace on Tampa Road, west of Lake St. George Drive.

Tunender was driving west on Tampa Road when her 2017 Volkswagen sedan suddenly veered into the center median of the thoroughfare and barreled into the path of two eastbound drivers, troopers said.

Suzanne Cosper, 52, was behind the wheel of the 2017 Nissan SUV that crashed into the Volkswagen head on, causing it to spin. The tail of the spinning vehicle was then struck by a 2018 Toyota minivan driven by 75-year-old Elza England.

The 43-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene. She was not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash. England was taken to Mease Countryside Hospital for medical treatment and Cosper was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg hospital.
