Two killed in crash on U.S. 19 in Pinellas County

Two women were killed after the driver turned in front of another car.

Two women were killed in a traffic crash on U.S. 19 in Pinellas County Sunday evening.

The crash occurred just after 6 p.m. when an 84-year-old woman driving a 2013 Volvo tried to make a left turn from southbound U.S. 19 onto Royal Boulevard. She turned in front of a northbound 2011 Audi driven by John Boussias, 56, of Palm Harbor, and the cars crashed.

A passenger in the Volvo, Diana Rakauskas, 69, of Kingston, Mass., died at the scene.

The driver of the Volvo, Diane P. Pires, also of Kingston, was taken to Mease Countryside Hospital, where she died.

Boussias also received treatment at the hospital for minor injuries, troopers said.

Alcohol was not a factor in the crash and no charges will be filed, troopers reported.
