A Largo man was arrested Monday after police say he attacked another man with a machete Sunday in Pinellas Park.

Devin Quarterman, 28, faces charges of attempted first-degree murder.

According to the Pinellas Park Police Department, Quarterman surprised Gerrardo Garcia and struck him several times with a machete during a physical altercation around 11 p.m. Sunday at 10191 66th Street N. 66th St.

Quarterman fled the scene before police arrived.

Garcia, 42, was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

Garcia and Quarterman knew each other and recently had been in a dispute that led to the incident, police said.

Quarterman was taken into custody Monday without incident and transported to the Pinellas County Jail.
