To help combat hunger in the COVID-19 crisis, 15 Pinellas County churches and funeral homes are joining together to collect food from 15 locations on May 9.

The “pop the trunk” event will allow community members to drop off non-perishable, high-protein food items from 9 a.m. to noon at collection sites across the county. Volunteers wearing safety gear will remove the donated food from car trunks, according to a news release from Anona United Methodist Church in Largo. The volunteers will adhere to the county’s recommendations for social distancing, the statement said.
