Pinellas County sheriff’s deputies are investigating after an Indian Shores police officer drove over a man lying on the beach.

William Koziarz, 66, was taken to Bayfront Health with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, according to sheriff’s deputies.

On May 8 around 6 p.m., Officer Natasha Hindman, 27, was driving her marked police car onto the beach from 193rd Avenue.

Hindman had started her beach patrol and was driving slowly along the sand when the left tires of her car drove over Koziarz’s hips, according to the sheriff’s office.

Hindman gave aid until paramedics came. Investigators said speed and impairment were not factors in the incident.

The investigation is ongoing.
