TARPON SPRINGS ― A 15-year-old girl accidentally drove a pickup truck over her father on Tuesday, police said, fatally injuring him.
The incident took place at about 5:26 p.m. at a pedestrian shelter at Anderson Park at 39699 U.S. 19 N, according to Tarpon Springs police.
The 46-year-old father was showing his daughter how to park a 2017 Ford F-150.
The father got out so the daughter could park it herself. The father stood in front of the truck, police said, and thought the daughter was going to back the truck into a parking spot.
But the daughter “unintentionally” hit the accelerator, police said, while the truck was in drive. It shot forward over a parking curb, struck the father and then hit a tree, according to police.
When officers arrived, the daughter was tending to her father. He was later pronounced dead at 7:58 p.m. at AdventHealth North Pinellas hospital.
The crash is still under investigation. The father and daughter were not named by police, and no other details were released.
