A 59-year-old bicyclist died after a drunk driver crashed into him on Friday night, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The Florida Highway Patrol did not release the name of the 59-year-old man from St. Petersburg who died or of the driver, a 28-year-old St. Petersburg man who was arrested on a DUI charge, according to the agency.
At about 10 p.m., the bicyclist and the driver were both going east on 118th Avenue North, east of 40th Street North. The bicyclist traveled into the path of the car, which hit him.
The highway patrol recently decided not to publicly release the names of people involved in crashes because of its interpretation of Marsy’s Law, which is designed to protect crime victims.
