Clearwater man, 48, struck and killed while walking across U.S. 19 in Palm Harbor

A Dunedin woman, 71, was headed south about 12:30 a.m. when the man entered her path, troopers said.

PALM HARBOR — A 48-year-old Clearwater man was struck and killed by a car early Tuesday as he was walking across U.S. 19 north of Colonial Boulevard, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

A Dunedin woman, 71, was headed south in the highway’s inside center lane about 12:30 a.m. when the man walked west into her path, troopers said.

The Highway Patrol did not release the identity of the pedestrian or the driver because of its interpretation of Marsy’s Law, a constitutional amendment passed by voters in 2018. The law is meant to protect crime victims, but it deprives the public of information that had long been made available in Florida under the state’s public records law.
