EAST LAKE — The Florida Highway Patrol is seeking a suspect in a hit and run collision early Sunday that killed a 42-year-old scotter driver.

A car and the scooter were each traveling north about 2:10 a.m. in the outside lane of East Lake Road, south of Woodlands Boulevard in East Lake. The car overtook and collided with the scooter and then fled the scene.

The man operating the scooter died at the scene of the crash. The Highway Patrol did not release his name under the agency’s interpretation of Marsy’s Law, a constitutional amendment passed by voters in 2018 that is meant to protect crime victims but deprives the public of information that had long been available under Florida’s public records law.

Debris from the car’s front grill and headlight indicate it is a 2015-2019 Nissan Sentra.

Anyone with information was asked to call the Florida Highway Patrol at (813) 558-1800 or Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 873-8477.
