ST. PETERSBURG — Police are searching for the driver who hit a man sitting in the street early Friday and didn’t stop.

A 58-year-old man walked into 34th Street near 1st Avenue South and sat down in a lane of travel about 12:18 a.m., according to St. Petersburg police. The driver of a northbound Nissan Altima struck the man and kept driving, police said.

Police have not released the man’s name because investigators were still working to notify his family.

Police said the Altima is white, from the 2010 to 2012 model years, has left front damage and is missing a left front fog light bezel.

Investigators asked anyone with information about the crash to call police at (727) 893-7780.
