Palm Harbor man, 83, injured in crash on U.S. 19

PALM HARBOR — An 83-year-old man was seriously injured Saturday after he turned into the path of a pick-up truck on U.S. 19, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash took place just before 11:30 a.m. on U.S. 19 N, north of Curlew Road.

The 83-year-old driver, whose name was not released, was traveling north and waiting to turn left into Harbor Freight Tools at 30990 U.S. 19 N.

When he turned left, troopers said he crossed into the southbound lanes of U.S. 19 N and entered the path of a Dodge pick-up truck driven by a 28-year-old Oldsmar man. The front of the pick-up truck slammed into the right side of the older man’s car, spinning it onto the shoulder of the road.

Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts, according to the Highway Patrol. The 28-year-old man sustained minor injuries. The 83-year-old man was taken to a hospital for medical treatment.
