MADEIRA BEACH — A 54-year-old woman died Thursday after she was struck by a pickup truck while riding a bicycle along Gulf Boulevard, deputies said.

The crash happened about 3:08 p.m. as Kimberly Ann Watson was riding a Jupiter electric bicycle and headed south on the sidewalk along the east side of Gulf Boulevard near 150th Avenue, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.

As Watson approached the entrance to Sinbad’s Big Treasure Chest, deputies said she crossed into the path of a Ford F-150 pickup that was preparing to exit the store’s parking lot. The driver ended up hitting the bicyclist, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Watson was taken to St. Petersburg General Hospital for medical treatment. The Madeira Beach woman was pronounced dead at 3:45 p.m., deputies said.

The driver of the pickup, 61-year-old Robert Ragusa of Tampa, was not injured. Deputies said neither speed nor impairment appear to be factors in the crash. The investigation is continuing.
