ST. PETERSBURG — A 36-year-old St. Petersburg man died Sunday when his car flipped off an interstate exit ramp and plunged into a parking lot below, troopers said.
The man was driving south on the Interstate 275 exit ramp to Interstate 375 at about 4 p.m. when he lost control on the wet road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The car spun onto the shoulder, collided with the barrier wall, overturned and fell, damaging four city of St. Petersburg vehicles that were parked below.
The driver, who was alone in the car, died at the scene. Troopers said he was not wearing a seat belt.
The Highway Patrol no longer includes the name of people involved in crashes in its news releases due to the agency’s application of Marsy’s Law.
Photos released by the Highway Patrol show the car crumpled the front of a city street sweeping truck.
