EAST LAKE — A 21-year-old Palm Harbor man died early Saturday after driving off the road and crashing into a tree, troopers say.

The crash took place about 3:56 a.m. on Highpoint Drive near Mira Vista Drive, in a residential area off Lake Tarpon, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The driver was headed south on Highpoint Drive at high speed about 3:56 a.m. when he veered off the road while trying to negotiate a curve. The car crashed into a tree and the driver died of his injuries at the scene. The driver was wearing a seat belt.

Troopers did not release any other information about the crash. The agency did not release the name of the driver due to its interpretation of Marsy’s Law, an amendment to Florida’s Constitution that was meant to protect crime victims but deprives the public of information that had long been available under the state’s public records laws.
