Skateboard rider, 26, killed in hit-run crash, Clearwater police say

The vehicle was found abandoned soon after. Police closed Gulf to Bay near Keene Road to investigate the crash.

CLEARWATER — Police are looking for a hit-and-run driver in the death of a Largo skateboarder early Thursday.

Tyler Deremo, 26, was killed when he was struck about 2 a.m. while skateboarding east in traffic lanes on Gulf to Bay Boulevard near Keene Road, Clearwater police said.

Deremo was taken to Morton Plant Hospital, where he died.

The vehicle was also headed east when the collision occurred. The driver fled the scene. Witnesses said the driver never hit the brakes.

The damaged vehicle was found shortly after, abandoned in the 2100 block of Cleveland Street, police said.

Officers know who owns the vehicle and are seeking the public’s help in locating the driver.
