A bicyclist has died after he was hit by a FedEx truck in Pinellas County Tuesday night.

The crash occurred about 7:19 p.m. Tuesday at 71st Street and 50th Avenue N, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

Troopers said a 25-year-old man from St. Petersburg was driving the FedEx truck north on 71st Street. The bicyclist was also going north in front of the truck driver. The bicycle didn’t have any lights on it and the truck driver didn’t immediately see the cyclist. Once he did, he took “evasive action to avoid a collision,” a news release from the Highway Patrol states.

The FedEx truck then began to rotate on the road, which was wet, and the back of the truck hit the bicyclist. The truck also collided with a van that was going south on 71st Street. Neither the driver of the FedEx truck or the driver of the van, a 60-year-old man from Largo, were injured, troopers said.

The bicyclist, a 54-year-old man who troopers said was from the United Kingdom, died later at a hospital.

No other details, including the names of the people involved, were released.
