An 84-year-old Clearwater man is dead after a collision in Pinellas County early Tuesday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The man was biking south on South Myrtle Avenue when he crossed the Belleair Road intersection around 8:25 a.m., the agency said in a news release.

According to troopers, the bicyclist “failed to stop at a stop sign” at the intersection and was struck by the driver of a sedan that was heading east on Belleair Road.

The 84-year-old man was taken to an area hospital, where he died, the release said. The sedan driver, a 21-year-old man from Clearwater, was not injured.

The Florida Highway Patrol did not name the bicyclist or the driver involved in the crash.
