An SUV driver struck and killed a road construction worker in Pinellas Park on Thursday, troopers said.

The driver of the SUV, a 77-year-old Seminole man, was headed west on 118th Avenue North approaching 43rd Street North about 10 p.m. when he struck a construction worker flagging for the Gateway Expressway construction project, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The worker, a 55-year-old Clearwater man, was taken to a local hospital and died there, troopers said.

The Highway Patrol did not release the men’s names. The agency typically does not release the names of people involved in crashes due to Marsy’s Law.
