LARGO — A man accused of killing a pregnant woman in 2017 and, once in jail, another inmate, has pleaded guilty.
Charles Groucho Allen, now 42, of Largo will spend the rest of his life in prison.
He was arrested in December 2017, days after shooting a high-powered rifle from his vehicle into a passing one, which carried 30-year-old Elizabeth Rosado and her family.
Rosado, 13 weeks pregnant, was shot in the head and killed. Clearwater police Chief Dan Slaughter at the time said Allen, in a drug-induced paranoia, thought the passing vehicle was there to rob him.
Allen was charged with two counts of first-degree murder — one for Rosado and one for the fetus — and several drug offenses.
Then, in June 2018 and before he could stand trial for Rosado's death, Allen got into a fight with another inmate at the Pinellas County Jail over a television remote. Allen hit the man, registered sex offender James Mills, 53, on the head with the remote, causing Mills to fall backward and hit his head. He later died.
Prosecutors added a charge of manslaughter.
Facing the death penalty in Rosado's death, Allen agreed to plead guilty to all charges on April 16 in exchange for a life sentence.
