Police: Deported man returned to stalk woman he had assaulted

Times staff

CLEARWATER — A man was arrested Thursday for illegally re-entering the country from Mexico to find a woman he sexually battered last year, Clearwater police said.

Miguel Angel Gutierrez, 40, was charged Thursday with felony aggravated stalking after police said he twice showed up at the unidentified 38-year-old victim's workplace on Monday and was a passenger in a car that cut her off as she was driving. Gutierrez jumped out of the vehicle, according to a police report, and attempted to open the woman's car door while making a threat. He fled after she called police.

He was arrested Thursday after Clearwater detectives asked the woman to arrange a meeting with him at a CVS Pharmacy at 2200 Gulf-to-Bay Blvd.

Gutierrez was deported to Mexico last year for sexually battering the woman, who said she was "in great fear" of him, police said.

He remained in Pinellas County Jail Friday without bail.
