Tampa chamber to host political hob nob

The Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce will hosts its 2018 Political Hob Nob event from 4:30 to 7 p.m. on Aug. 14 at the Tampa Convention Center, 333 S Franklin St.

The chamber holds the event every other year during election years to allow its members and members of the community the opportunity to mingle with qualified candidates competing to represent the Tampa Bay area just weeks before the upcoming primary election.

"Advocacy is a key pillar in the Chamber’s Vision plan and policy events, like Hob Nob, is just one way in which we mobilize around that vision to inform candidates and elected officials of priorities within the business community," said chamber president and CEO Bob Rohrlack.

More than 30 candidates have registered to attend including Hillsborough County commission candidates, Hillsborough school board candidates, state legislature candidates and judicial candidates. A group supporting passage of Amendment 3, a proposal that would put approval of casino gambling strictly in the hands of voters, also will be present.

At the end of each event, the Chamber also holds a straw poll for attendees to vote for their top candidates. Attendees must be of voting age to participate in the straw poll.

Guests are required to register for the event which is available at a discounted pre-registration rate of $40 for members and emerge members, and $50 for non-members until midnight, Friday (Aug 10). After that time the cost is $60 for door admission regardless of membership status.
