Pinellas County Commissioner Janet Long announced Monday that she will seek re-election.

It was an early declaration for Long, whose race won’t be decided until November 2020.

“It’s been an honor to serve our citizens and I’m grateful for the trust the people of Pinellas County have placed in me,” Long said in a release announcing her bid. “We have accomplished so much together, but we still have much work to do.”

Long, 74, is seeking a third term on the commission. She first joined the board in 2012 after a four-year stint in the Florida House of Representatives from 2006-2010.

She is currently the only candidate who has announced a run for the District 1 at-large seat, according to the Pinellas supervisor of elections website.
