CLEARWATER BEACH — The body of a swimmer who had gone missing early Tuesday was found about nine hours later, according to Clearwater police.

She was identified as Allison Nicole Sullivan, 40, of Morristown, Tenn. She was found about a mile west of Pier 60 at about 12:30 p.m., police said.

Sullivan went swimming Monday night near the Holiday Inn at 521 S Gulfview Blvd. Police received a report that she was missing at about 3:30 a.m.

A man who was with the woman told police she went into the water behind the hotel and never came out.

Those waters, just north of the Sand Key Bridge, are said to have strong and dangerous currents, said Clearwater police spokesman Rob Shaw.

Watercraft from the Coast Guard, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, Dunedin Fire Rescue and the wildlife commission all helped search for the missing woman.

The medical examiner will determine the cause of Sullivan’s death.
