CLEARWATER ó A man reaching for a golfing disc was bitten by an 11-foot alligator on Monday, according to police.

A 35-year-old man suffered "minor injuries"during the biting incident at Cliff Stephens Park at 600 Fairwood Ave, Clearwater police said.

Trappers and officers from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission corralled the alligator and loaded it into a trailer to be taken away, police said. On Tuesday, the commission said Richard Peel, 35, was treated for injuries at Mease Countryside Hospital.

After the biting, three bystanders helped Peel out of the water. The alligator remained in the same location, the commission said.

Once an alligator deemed a nuisance is captured, itís up to the trapper to decide whether to keep the reptile alive or harvest it for its meat and hide.

The commission is investigating the incident.

The Clearwater Police Department tweeted photos and videos from the scene.
