Pinellas deputies investigating death of 31-year-old woman in jail custody

LARGO — Pinellas County Sheriff's deputies are investigating the death of a 31-year-old woman in custody at the county jail.

Christa Dunn, who is listed in jail records as transient, had a medical episode Tuesday while inside her assigned housing area, the Sheriff's Office said. Medical employees, alerted by other inmates, responded to the housing area and performed CPR on Dunn.

She was taken for further treatment to Largo Medical Center, where she died about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday. Her death doesn't appear suspicious, according to the Sheriff's Office. The Pinellas-Pasco Medical Examiner's Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.

Detectives said she has a history of drug abuse and health issues. Clearwater police arrested her Oct. 27 for failure to appear on several drug charges.
