TAMPA — A suspicious package discovered Thursday morning near the front of Carver Exceptional Center posed no danger to the school, according to Tampa police.
The white plastic bag found at the school located at 2934 E. Hillsborough Ave., police said. It contained a number of small anti-theft devices.
The school for grades six through 12 was evacuated during the two-hour investigation. Officers closed Hillsborough Avenue in both directions between N 22nd Street and N 34th Street.
Traffic along N 30th Street was diverted as well, police said.
The closure affected nearby businesses.
"Roads to the store are all blocked off," said Aquanan Newsome, an employee at Beauty Depot, 3120 E Hillsborough Ave. "We've had just one customer this morning."
Law enforcement issued no warnings to businesses contacted.
"The police are all in the street in front of us, but nothing else," said Peter Filippello, general manager of Tampa Wholesale Produce Market at 2801 E Hillsborough Ave.
"But they won't let any traffic through so we're just waiting for them to clear out."
