ST. PETE BEACH — Deputies say a driver killed a man walking on a sidewalk and fled the scene before causing a second crash Saturday night.

Carolyn Yovan, 51 of St. Pete Beach, now faces felony charges of driving under the influence manslaughter and leaving the scene of the crash and a misdemeanor charge of driving with a suspended or revoked license.

About 7 p.m., according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, Yovan was driving a Lexus sport utility vehicle near the intersection of Captiva Circle and Blind Pass Road. At the same time, Peter Chenhall, 39, was walking on the sidewalk.

Yovan drove up on the sidewalk and crashed into Chenhall, deputies reported. The St. Pete Beach man died from his injuries at Bayfront Hospital later that night.

The driver fled the crash scene, deputies said, and got into a second crash about two miles away, at the intersection of Gulf Boulevard and Gulf Winds Drive. No one was hurt in the second crash.

Yovan is being held in Pinellas County Jail on $20,500 bond.
