WEEKI WACHEE — The Florida Highway Patrol is searching for a car that was driving erratically and left the scene of a rollover crash that killed a 17-year-old Spring Hill girl.

The crash took place at about 4:42 p.m. on U.S. 19, near the intersection on Glen Lakes Boulevard. The FHP gave this account of the incident:

Jarod Lucas Water, 20, of Hudson was driving a 2001 Jeep Cherokee north on U.S. 19. Riding with him was Kendell Jordan Tucker of Spring Hill.

A silver Volkswagen sedan traveled north alongside the Jeep in the inside lane, the FHP said.

Then both vehicles made "erratic lane changes," according to the FHP, and Water lost control of the Cherokee. It spun and overturned, ejecting the passenger, Tucker.

She was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers said neither occupant of the Jeep was wearing their seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The Volkswagen then made a U-turn at Glen Lakes Boulevard and headed south on U.S. 19, the FHP said.

Waters was taken to Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point for treatment of serious injuries.

Troopers ask anyone with information about the Volkswagen or this incident to call (813) 558-1800.
