DADE CITY — A Lakeland teen was killed Tuesday night and a Lake Wales teen was critically injured in a crash on U.S. 301.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 17-year-old Abigail Nicole Trammel, of Lake Wales, was driving a 2002 Ford Explorer westbound on Trilby Road, approaching U.S. 301 around 7:10 p.m.
At the same time, 21-year-old Laramy Tuff Strickland, of Bushnell, was northbound on U.S. 301 and towing a utility trailer with a 2012 Ford F150.
According to FHP, Trammel drove through flashing red signals and into the path of Strickland's pickup truck.
The impact caused Trammel's SUV to crash into a fence and into two other cars parked inside a fenced property along U.S. 301, troopers said.
Keely Rai Oltmanns, 15, of Lakeland, was not wearing a seat belt when she was ejected from the back of the SUV, troopers said. She died at Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point.
Trammel and another passenger, 15-year-old Robert Stinson of Lakeland, were transported to Tampa General Hospital, troopers said. Trammel suffered critical injuries, and Stinson is listed in serious condition.
Strickland was not injured, trooper said. Passenger Jarod Hunter Dobson, 18, of Webster, suffered minor injuries.
Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, but charges are pending, troopers said.
