HOLIDAY — Former Major League Baseball all star pitcher Roy Halladay died Tuesday in a plane crash in the Gulf of Mexico.
Authorities responded to a call for a small plane down shortly after noon. It landed in the water north of Bailey's Bluff in Holiday. Investigators could not immediately confirm how many people were in the plane at the time of the crash. A rescue team found it upside-down in shallow water, tangled in mangroves.
Halladay was a standout pitcher for the Toronto Blue Jays and Philadelphia Phillies. He was 40 years old.
