A pedestrian was killed in Tampa late Wednesday night.
According to police, 47-year-old Melvin Allen was walking westbound on the sidewalk in the 1300 block of E Hillsborough Avenue around 11 p.m.. when he stepped onto the road, police say.
He was struck by a 2005 Kia Optima that was traveling westbound in the outside lane, police say. He died at a local hospital.
The crash was not a hit and run and everyone involved stayed at the scene and cooperated with the police, officers said.
The crash closed all westbound lanes of E Hillsborough Ave from N 15th St. to N 13th St. for 2½ hours, police said.
