TARPON SPRINGS — A Pinellas sheriff's deputy was caught up in a chain-reaction crash that took place early Monday at the intersection of Trinity Boulevard and East Lake Road. The crash took place at about 6:28 a.m., according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.

Deputy Gary Wilson was driving his agency vehicle, a 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe SUV, in the westbound median lane of Trinity Boulevard when he stopped at a red light at the intersection of East Lake Road, the agency said.

Anthony Watt, 31 was also headed west on Trinity Boulevard in a 2015 Porsche Macan SUV. He did not see traffic slowing for the red light, according to the Sheriff's Office said, and ended up crashing into the rear of a 2001 Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by Brett Dowd, 32.

The collision ended up pushing the pickup into the rear of the sheriff's SUV, the agency said. Dowd was taken to the Medical Center of Trinity for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Wilson and Watt were not injured.

Watt was cited for careless driving, the agency said.
