DADE CITY — One person was seriously injured when a train struck a sport-utility vehicle on Tuesday along the train tracks near U.S. 301, according to Pasco County Fire Rescue.
The incident took place near the 37900 block of Vitality Way. The incident was reported just before 1 p.m.
The crash threw the SUV off the tracks and into a nearby fence, leaving it laying on its right side. The driver, who was not identified, was extricated from the vehicle by firefighters and flown for emergency medical treatment to an undisclosed hospital.
The train was not endangered by the crash, officials said, and neither was the surrounding area.
No other information about what led to the crash or the condition of the injured driver was released by the Sheriff's Office.
