PLANT CITY — An Amtrak train struck a vehicle Monday afternoon, killing its driver, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The train was crossing Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard at Jordan Street when it collided with a four-door Buick, authorities said. The train was heading from Miami to Tampa.

The driver of the Buick, who was not identified by the FHP, was pronounced dead around 4:34 p.m., according to Hillsborough Fire Rescue spokeswoman Jessica Coy.

No other details about the crash were released, but FHP spokesman Steve Gaskins said the Buick was leaving a nearby auction just before the collision.

None of the 147 train passengers were injured, Gaskins said.
