Boat crash leaves two injured in Indian Rocks Beach

INDIAN ROCKS BEACH — A boater and his passenger were injured Saturday morning when their vessel crashed into a dock and seawall on the Intracoastal Waterway in Indian Rocks Beach.

Richard Bosman, 65, was heading north in his 2011 Pursuit, a 28-foot vessel with twin 250-horsepower engines, about 9 a.m. when he crashed behind some homes in the 500 block of 20th Avenue N., Pinellas County sheriff's officials said.

Bosman, of Largo, later told deputies that the boat was going 25 mph when he reached down momentarily to grab a cup of coffee. The boat then crashed into a dock behind 526 20th Ave. N.

The impact caused Bosman to knock the boat's throttle wide open, tossing him overboard into shallow water, deputies said.

A passenger, 65-year-old Samuel Roback, was thrown backwards and tried to reach for the engine's kill switch as the boat circled out of control, deputies said. The boat stopped when it hit a seawall behind 536 20th Ave. N.

Bosman was later taken to Morton Plant Hospital with possible left knee and right shoulder injuries, authorities said. Roback, of Indian Rocks Beach, was taken to the same hospital with possible torso and left leg injuries.

Alcohol was not believed to be a factor in the crash, deputies said. No citations were issued.
