TAMPA — A city bus veered off the road and crashed into a South Tampa office building on Friday morning.

The incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. at 2503 W Swann Ave., which houses the Fernandez injury attorney firm. The building stands at the corner of Armenia Avenue, where it dead ends at Swann, near St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church.

Six people who were in the bus were transported to local hospitals with minor injuries, said Tampa Fire Rescue spokesman Jason Penny.

Bus operator Josett Sergeant, who was one of the injured, has driven for HART since January, said HART spokeswoman Sandra Morrison.

"She lost control and went into the building," Morrison said, but the agency is still investigating how that happened.

Morrison said Sergeant had no prior incidents on record.

No one inside the office was injured in the incident.

Images show the HART bus breaking through the building's exterior as it entered between two palm trees.

The Tampa Police Department is investigating the cause of the crash.
