Pinellas County sheriff's deputies are investigating the death of a 6-month-old boy at his home just outside of St. Petersburg on Monday afternoon.

According to deputies, 6-month-old Anthony Ford was found unresponsive by one of his siblings around 12:20 p.m. on the side of the bed with his head stuck in the opening between the mattress and headboard.

Deputies say the child's father, 33-year-old Antonio Ford, placed the infant on his bed in a back bedroom to take a nap sometime after 10:45 a.m.

The infant was found after Antonio Ford sent one his children into the bedroom to check on him, deputies said.

Antonio Ford performed CPR until paramedics arrived, deputies said. He was later pronounced dead at Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital.

The infant had a crib but was often allowed to sleep in his parents' bed, deputies said.

Antonio Ford was with five other children while the infant's mother, 29-year-old Nina Yates, was away from the home, deputies said.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death, deputies said.
