Semitrailer slams into car, killing 19-year-old Tampa woman

Published Jul. 23, 2013

TAMPA — A semitrailer truck slammed into a car Monday morning, leaving a 19-year-old Tampa woman dead and closing Causeway Boulevard in both directions near the intersection of 86th Street, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 3:50 a.m. as Waynenecia Shacole Tillman was headed east on Causeway Boulevard in a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am, authorities said. As she drove, she slowed down and may have come to a stop, troopers said. It was unclear why.

At the same time, a semitrailer truck, hauling a load of gasoline, approached Tillman's car from behind, authorities said. The truck driver did not see the car and slammed into its back side, dragging the vehicle several yards before coming to a stop.

Tillman died at the scene, authorities said.

The truck driver, Louis Albert Hartung, 48, was not injured, officials said. Despite enduring heavy damage, the truck did not leak any fuel.

All lanes reopened just after 8 a.m. The crash remained under investigation.
