CLEARWATER — Police say someone in a stolen 2013 Toyota Prius ran a red light and smashed into a minivan about 11 p.m. Monday, leaving a 17-year-old girl with life-threatening injuries.
The Prius, which had been reported stolen an hour and a half before the collision, flipped at Coachman and Belcher roads. The 17-year-old girl, who police believe was a passenger, was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg then All Children's Hospital, where she was in stable condition early Tuesday, according to investigators. No one in the Honda Odyssey van was injured.
Police said a food delivery driver had left the Prius running on South Betty Lane. A boy in his teens is suspected of taking the car. The crash forced officers to close the intersection for more than two hours.
