Investigators: Pinellas deputy injured in crash ran red light

DUNEDIN — A Pinellas County sheriff's deputy was injured on Sunday night after investigators say he ran a red light and crashed into another vehicle.

Deputy Tyler Green was traveling east on Main Street shortly after 11 p.m. on Sunday in a marked Chevolet Tahoe when he ran a red light at Belcher Road, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office. His vehicle collided with a Chrysler PT Cruiser driven by Karen Garland, 31, of Clearwater, who was making a turn on a green arrow, the Sheriff's Office said.

Green, with the agency for three years, was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not considered life threatening. It was not disclosed whether he was on duty. A news release from the Sheriff's Office said investigators do not believe drug or alcohol impairment was a factor.

Garland and her two passengers, including a 2-year-old, were uninjured.
