TAMPA — A Tampa man died after he was thrown from his motorcycle late Sunday.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers said Elmer C. Brown, 46, was driving his motorcycle north on I-75 near Gibsonton Drive when he crossed the painted median between the entrance ramp and the outside lane and collided with the passenger side of a Nissan Rogue driven by Jorge L. Torres, 70, of Sarasota.

Brown was thrown from his motorcycle and landed in the center lane of I-75, where he was hit by a Hyundai driven by Jessica L. Bryant, 23, of Tampa. Torres' Nissan veered into the right shoulder and hit a concrete barrier wall over the Alafia river.

Brown died at the scene. The crash and investigation closed northbound I-75 for more than two hours, troopers said.
