Published Apr. 29, 2017

A man narrowly escaped being hit by a out-of-control vehicle Saturday before the stolen Jeep hit a parked van and a corner of his house in Clearwater.

Just after 12 p.m., police say the female driver of a 1998 Jeep lost control near 1333 Mary L Road and careened into the property of Christopher Bennett, 55, who jumped out of the vehicle's path.

The car struck a corner of Bennett's house after striking a parked Ford van.

The Jeep's driver and a passenger fled the scene and remained at large at 5:30 p.m.

Clearwater police said the Jeep was stolen. Clearwater Fire and Rescue's technical response team shored up the house.
