ST. PETERSBURG — An unidentified man was transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg with what were initially considered life-threatening injuries Monday after wrecking his motor scooter.

The man was traveling west on 30th Avenue N around 7:15 p.m. when he hit the median at 65th Way and was thrown from the scooter, according to St. Petersburg Police Department spokesman Rick Shaw.

Shaw said the man, who is believed to be between 30 and 40 years old, was not wearing a helmet. He said no other vehicles were involved, and police are unsure what caused the man to crash but will continue to investigate.

The scooter driver's injuries were no longer considered life-threatening late Monday.
