ST. PETERSBURG — A pedestrian was killed early Sunday when he stepped into the path of a car, police said.
Tyrone Gray, 34, was driving a Ford sedan east on 18th Avenue S in the curb lane around 1:35 a.m. when Emory Carter, 55, walked from the curb in front of the approaching vehicle.
The front right portion of the car struck Carter, throwing him to the roadside, according to police. Carter was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg where he was pronounced dead. Police said there are no criminal charges pending and alcohol was not a factor.
