ST. PETERSBURG — A motorcyclist died Saturday after he was thrown from his vehicle without a helmet.

Christopher Shaw, 34, was driving his Harley Davidson southbound in the 1500 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street South about 1 a.m. when he veered to the left and struck a raised concrete median and roadway sign, according to the St. Petersburg Police Department. Shaw's body landed in the roadway.

He was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg, where he died just before 11 a.m. Saturday.

Police said alcohol was a factor in the crash, but blood test results were still pending.
