TAMPA — A motorcyclist was killed Thursday afternoon after a vehicle turned into his path in the Palm River-Clair Mel area, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Joshua Perez, 30, of Plant City was riding a 2006 Honda bike east on Causeway Boulevard approaching S 54th Street, troopers said.

Edward Allen Gonzalez, 59, of Wesley Chapel was driving a 2017 Ford F-150 pickup truck west on Causeway Boulevard, the FHP said, also approaching S 54th Street.

Gonzalez turned left toward S 54th Street and into Perez's path, trooper said, causing the motorcycle to hit the right side of the pickup.

Perez, who was wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene. Gonzalez wasn't injured.

The accident is still under investigation. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, the FHP said.
