Motorcyclist seriously injured after running into back of unmarked patrol car, deputies say

A Tarpon Springs man was seriously injured early Saturday morning after his motorcycle rammed into the back of a Pinellas deputy's unmarked patrol car, authorities said.

Just after midnight, Deputy Travis Sibley was driving south on Alternate U.S. 19 near Georgia Avenue in Palm Harbor. Martin L. McFadden, 23, was driving his 2001 Honda motorcycle behind the deputy.

As Sibley slowed to make a u-turn, McFadden tried to pass him by driving in the center turn lane of the two-lane road, a sheriff's report said. The motorcycle then struck the deputy's rear quarter panel and McFadden was ejected.

McFadden, who wore a helmet, was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries that did not appear life-threatening. Sibley also went to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators said they did not believe alcohol was involved and that charges are pending.
