A passenger on a motorcycle was killed Sunday night when the driver veered off Interstate 275 and into some trees in southern Pinellas County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The motorcycle was traveling south in the inside lane on I-275 just north of 54th Avenue S when it departed the highway for unknown reasons, struck a median guardrail and then the trees, according to the FHP. The 35-year-old male driver from North Port and his female passenger from Orlando were both thrown from the bike. Troopers have not released their names or the age of the passenger.
The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg in critical condition.
