Pedestrian injured in Largo crash involving Sheriff's Office car

LARGO — A pedestrian was injured when she was struck by a Pinellas County Sheriff's Office patrol car Saturday evening, authorities said.

Nora Reitzel, 39, suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening after being struck while crossing the road by a marked cruiser driven by Deputy Edward Feidt, 22, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Feidt was driving south on Starkey Road in the median lane around 9:17 p.m. when Reitzel emerged from a driveway access at 12650 Starkey Road and crossed the street, authorities said. Feidt hit the brakes to avoid Reitzel but struck her with the front passenger side of the car, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Reitzel was transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg with injuries to her pelvis, authorities said. Feidt was not injured. Reitzel was not at a crosswalk and alcohol appeared to be a factor, according to the Sheriff's Office.
