ST. PETERSBURG — A deputy crashed into a guardrail along Interstate 275 in heavy rain Sunday and was injured, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said.

Deputy Daniel Nocera of the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office was driving an agency Ford Crown Victoria south when he crashed just before the exit to 38th Avenue N.

The cruiser may have hydroplaned and fishtailed before hitting the median guardrail on the interstate, the Sheriff's Office said.

Nocera, who has been a deputy since February 2014, was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg with non-life-threatening injuries.
